Covid-19: Bradley Airport Flights Down By 90 Percent - Airline Makes Cuts

By May of last year, the airport had seen 302,763 boarding passengers since the start of 2019.

In 2020, so far there have been 27,941 boarding passengers, according to the airport’s flight logs.

This plunge in flights has led Southwest Airlines to cut direct flights from the Windsor Locks airport to other locations - except for Baltimore and Chicago. The change takes place in September. The change in flight availability is temporary.

Southwest’s numbers dropped in proportion to Bradley International - ridership is down 90 percent traveling from the airport.

By May of 2019, the airline had flown 70,824 passengers out of Bradley. From January through May of this year, the number of passengers flown out is 7,136.

Southwest has also cut back on its flights to and from other airports as well.

Specifically, from September through November, Southwest will not fly nonstop out of BDL to Denver and St. Louis. A nonstop to Orlando will be unavailable September through October, a Southwest spokesperson said. 

Overall Bradley International's ridership - getting on or getting off in Windsor Locks - was 612,306 from Jan-May, 2019.

The overall ridership Jan.-May, 2020, is 57,843.
